Mammals and Amphibians:The majority of mammals that find their way along the patches of forest are small omnivores. Along the banks can be found squirrels, foxes, muskrats and beavers. The occasional deer may find its way to these patches of forest. The rich riparian environment provides a suitable environment for many species who depend upon the river for survival. The Seine River is home to approximately 100 beaver. The river bottomlands provides ample dead branches and twisted tree roots that form good materials for beavers to build dams and lodges. Amphibians: The Seine River supports many species of amphibians. Snapping turtle and painted turtle can be seen often during the summer months on the banks of the river. The river's banks also support a wide variety of frog species. |
