GREEN MAP Urban Wildlife Habitats
|
WELCOMEThis component of the Winnipeg GREEN MAP focuses on the site of the Moray Street bridge. The bridge has been constructecd within the last decade, and combines technology with sustainability principles. Introduction:The Moray Streeet bridge is located in the south-west end of Winnipeg. Plans to construct the bridge have been in the works since 1968, but it was only in 1996 that the construction of the Moray Street Bridge came to fruition. As a result of this infrastructure project, the communities of St. James and Charleswood are more closely connected. The Moray Bridge development deserves to be recognized in the Green Map because of its innovative and integrated design. The bridge is not only a multi-million dollar thoroughfare, travelled by thousands of motorists daily. The areas surrounding the Moray bridge have been preserved and enhanced to support the habitat. Educational plaques have been placed along the pedestrian path, providing pedestrians with information on the native wildlife, vegetation, and culture. |
