Growing Prospects

WELCOME

The use of flat rooftops of many industrial buildings, using lightweight hydroponic (soilless agriculture) techniques,
could begin to make more efficient use of both space and energy resources that are normally discarded.
The industrial parks of many North American cities could become agricultural as well as industrial producers,
combining functions that have traditionally been separated. (Hough, 228)

Objectives & Goals:

This section of the Green Map Website documents Growing Prospects Inc., Winnipeg's first hydroponics urban greenhouse, featuring year-round growing of fresh herbs and vegetables for the retail market. Please note: The operation at the CN location has since closed, and after some delay is re-established at the Fort Whyte Alive location.
The aim of these pages is to raise awareness concerning the provision of a sustainable food source for the world's increasing population. To accomplish this, a basic understanding of the processes, methods and techniques related to hydroponics growing will be provided.
