    Conclusion and contact:

The Manitoba Food Charter is an important project in regards to food security, environmental concerns and education.  Over “21,000 children use food banks each month in Manitoba” (Manitoba Food Charter, 2006c) therefore the food charter is needed to help resolve this issue. Food security issues are a major, and not only affect those without the ability to obtain healthy food, but the entire population.  For example, the lack of food can lead the illness, which in turn can affect our health system, by increasing our taxes and the waiting list to see a doctor.  Food Security is not simply an individuals problem; it affects the community as a whole, and should be though about as an urban design issue.  Education regarding food issues is crucial, as in the twenty-first century there is a disconnect between how food appears in the supermarket and the actual process of growing the food (Hough, 2004, 160).  Only through this knowledge will our province have a chance at a sustainable future, with plenty of healthy food to eat.

    Funding
This past year (2006-2007) main source of funding for the Manitoba Food Charter comes from the Public Health Agency of Canada.  Secondary sources are the Province of Manitoba Health and Healthy Living, and the Aboriginal and Northern Affairs. The Province of Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Initiatives, Patterson Foundation, and Heifer International also offered funding between 2005-2006.
