Urban agriculture:

Conclusion:

Earthshare is an extremely important organization for many reasons.  Earthshare’s benefits do not simply include fresh organic food, it also provides fair wage jobs for refugees, is environmentally friendly, contributes to sustainable community development and may soon be leading the way in regards to urban farming in Winnipeg. Earthshare’s plan to move into the city will increase educational awareness in regards to how food is actually grown. Education regarding food issues is crucial, as in the twenty-first century there is a disconnect between how food appears in the supermarket and the actual process of growing the food (Hough, 2004, 160).

Urban agriculture produces healthier individuals both physically and mentally, strengthens our relationship to the land, increases the sustainability of our cities (Hough, 2004, 188).
